The former wife of Kamalhasan is an established and acclaimed classical dancer. Se has no illusions about the financial aspects of making a career in classical dancing. Money isn't all that good. And, she has found an alternative too. Vani is one of the best interior decorators in the city of Chennai.

"Sometimes I'm surprised by my sheer tenacity," she said.

Classical dance is her first love. Vani was never interested in performing in films, however. "I think I'm too old to perform in films. Frankly there is nothing different about film dance and classical dances that you perform on the stage. At the end of the day, both are just the same- dance," she said.
