‘Keerthichakra’ ready
- 01.07.2006
When Major Ravi launched ‘Keerthichakra’, he wanted to make a film that depicted an armyman’s love for his country and his family. With a massive production unit consisting of 133 members, Ravi has successfully completed the film in just 33 days!
Unlike other filmmakers, Major Ravi preferred to go to Kashmir and shoot the film on location itself. Of course, he didn’t take unnecessary security risks. The entire segments were shot with Army protection. The story is told from the point of view of a Black Cat officer who kills seven extremists and ends up finding his name on their hitlist.
Before embarking on an independent career as a film director, Major Ravi had worked as an assistant with director Priyadarshan. He had even acted in films like ‘Kaalapani’, ‘Aalavandaan’ and ‘Shraddha’.
So, what was the inspiration behind the film? “I was serving in Kashmir in 1991. When I was returning to Kerala, I met a Kashmiri woman who revealed some startling facts about the real motives of the extremists. She said that they come down to Kashmir from their hideouts and commit atrocities not just on men but on women too. That incident had a terrible impact on me and that was when I decided to make a film on the real state of Kashmir,” he said.
The film is being simultaneously made in Tamil too. ‘Aran’ is the name of the film in Tamil.
