Two Malayali films flop in Kollywood
- 02.03.2006
In the past two weeks, five films starring actors and actresses from Kerala were released. With exception to one, all other films had flopped.
‘June R’, Revathy Varma’s directorial debut, created lot of expectation, but turned out to be a huge letdown both in terms of story and performance at the box office. Sunil had changed his name to Naren and made his debut in ‘Chittiram Pesudadee’. Bhavana was the heroine. It flopped too.
Sandhya, of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ fame, had acted in ‘Dishyum’. This was the story of a stuntman. It flopped.
Navya Nair’s much delayed ‘Amirtham’ was released a few days ago. That sank without a trace. Renuka Menon-starrer ‘Kalaaba Kaadhalan’ is doing average business. Many people in the Malayalam film industry are angry with the way she is indulging in excess of glamour under the excuse of “the role required it”. The film had only worsened it.
The exception was Nayantara’s ‘Kalvanin Kaadhali’. The film is doing good business and has already recovered costs.
