Good news and bad news for Bhavana
- 02.04.2007
Since bad news always is more interesting to read, let's begin with the bad news.
Amidst lot of publicity and media curiosity, director Bala had signed Bhavana and Arya up to play the lead roles in his new project, 'Nyaan Kadavul'. The director is known for his demands that his lead actors and actresses shouldn't accept any other film as long as they complete his project. But almost always, his films had turned out to be blockbusters, in spite of the very tragic endings.
This time around, he had first signed Ajith up for the role and then abruptly threw him out only to sign the young and upcoming Arya up. Shooting began and soon afterwards, trouble began too.
The film's producer was tired of his mysterious ways. The director wouldn't tell him what the story is or stick to any budgetary limits. He also has the dubious distinction of taking a very long time to complete his films.
The producer decided that he wasn't ready to take the risk and simply withdrew from the film. Angered, the director approached another reputed producer to fund the film. He said that he wouldn't mind provided the director complies with some of his conditions. The conditions were simple- submit the screenplay, give proper expense accounts, keep the producer informed about the film's progress and complete the film on time.
Rumors have it that the director found these conditions a bit too much to listen to. He has decided to not work with the producer.
Bhavana didn't suffer much from this abrupt halt. She wasn't bound by the exclusivity clause but the film's hero, Arya, who also happens to be a Malayali, is very much affected. He isn't able to accept any new offer until he completes this film. Nobody knows when that will be…
Now the good news- the recent Bhavana-starrer 'Veyil', which turned out to be a blockbuster hit, is now going to be screened at Cannes this year. This is the first Tamil film to be picked up for Cannes.
