"No more 90-days deadline"
- 09.05.2008
Anwar Rasheed is easily one of the much sought-after directors in Malayalam right now with a series of blockbuster hits to his credit. His third film, 'Annan Thambi' too has become a record-setter at the box office.
"There is a strange trend in Malayalam cinema," he says. "They first decide the release dates, book the theatres and then launch the films. In most cases, the director has about 90 days to complete his film- 55 days of shooting and 30 days for post-production and lab works. The remaining 5 days are for any unforeseen delays. This puts immense pressure on the directors. This really has to change."
"30 days is not enough to complete the post-production works for a film like 'Annan Thambi'. The film had lot of graphics work. If that was not bad enough, the hero was playing dual roles. I needed atleast 42 days for the post-production works. Due to some delays here and there, I was able to get three more days' time.
"It would have been wonderful had I got more time. the graphics would have been even better," he ends.
Point taken. But the quality of the film's graphics hardly made any negative impact on its spectacular performance at the box office.
