It looks as if this one just might turn out to be the most promising release this Onam. Lal Jose has come up with a film that just might feature in the best ever college-based films in the history of Malayalam cinema.
The film begins with two retired professors, Professor Iyer and his wife, Professor Lakshmi (played by Balachander Menon and Shoba Mohan respectively) making plans to organize a get-together party for the 1991 batch of the CMS College, Kottayam. Their only son, Murali, was a student of that batch but had died under mysterious circumstances during his final year. It was Murali who used to insist on a get together. So, his parents, the retired professors, decide to organize this in his memory.
Murali (played by Naren) was a singer. Then there was Sukumaran, played by Prithviraj, who was actively involved in student politics, who was now settled in Mumbai as diamond merchant. His political rival was Satheeshan Kanjikuzhi, played by Jayasurya, who grew up to become a full-time politician, after his studies. Vasu, who was his close friend in college, ended up becoming his personal assistant.
Kavya Madhavan is Tara Kuroop, daughter of a former Minister. She’s a trained dancer. While in college, she had a massive crush on Sukumaran and decided to stay unmarried because she couldn’t get over him.
Sukumaran’s close friend in college was Pious George, who is now settled in Gulf. The gang also has a Muslim girl, Razia, with nickname Penguin. The film’s flashback is a treat to watch. It has the right and realistic-looking mix of fun, romance, comedy, student politics, violence and seriousness.
Meanwhile, the get-together party isn’t all fun and reminiscence as the attendees soon discover. A murder attempt is made on Sukumaran. After this incident, the story begins to unfold rapidly, leading to a stunning climax.
