Ajmal Ameer, Vimala Raman
It has been a while since Malayalam audience saw a predictable romantic story. So, here we are with 'Pranayakaalam'.

The film has a good-looking hero, Ajmal Ameer and Vimala Raman as heroine. As far as looks are concerned, she is improving dramatically with each film of hers. But then you just are unable to shake off the feeling of having seen it all before. You might want to refer to films like 'Aniyathipraavu' for further information.

So, here is the story.

The film's hero, Renji is an MCA student from Bangalore. He comes home in Kerala for vacation. Not surprisingly, he is from a very good family. Everybody loves and adores him- his dad Balagopalan, his mom (played respectively by Balachander Menon, Lakshmi Ramakrishnan), brother and grandpa (played by Thilagan). He also has a circle of friends including Madhu Warrier.

One day, at the local bus stand, he sees Maria, the heroine. He falls in love with her. He professes his love for her. She refuses. He begins to wonder why. Her background is slowly revealed. Her family is bang opposite to what Renji's is. Her father, Murikkal Vargees is obsessed with money. He is a cop who also runs a side business of lending money. He couldn't care less about his wife or daughter. In fact, he hadn't spoken to his wife in over years. But he is a religious fanatic. So, he isn't going to be happy at all that his daughter had fallen in love with a Hindu boy.

Slowly, Renji wears her resistance out and she too begins to reciprocate her love.

Probably the only surprise element in the film is its tragic end.

Oosepachan has done a fairly average job with his music score. On the technical side too, there is nothing much to write about.
