Navya Nair is slowly becoming an expert at clarifying controversies that surround her name. a while ago, when she made her debut in Malayalam, she was busy dodging rumors about a romantic involvement with her co-star Prithviraj. It’s a different story that since then Prithviraj too has become an expert at blankly denying all rumors about his ‘romantic involvements’.
Then Navya Nair fund herself in the midst of another controversy. This one was in Tamil. This time, her producer/director, Thangar Bachchan, accused her of trying to fleece money off him.Navya survived that one too.
Now, Navya Nair is at the center of another controversy- this one is about a fight that allegedly took place between her and her ‘Pathaaka’ co-star Renuka Menon.
What exactly happened on the sets of ‘Pathaaka’?
A Tamil magazine had made up the entire incident. Renuka Menon is my family friend. She is very close to my parents. We used to eat together on the sets of ‘Pathaaka’. We are that close to each other. We both are successful actresses in Tamil too and maybe that was the reason why they had created such a story about us.
Alright, lets talk about something else. Do you still read romantic novels?
I read them when I find time.
Have you started looking for someone to get married to?
I have no plans to get married atleast for another five years. Maybe my parents are thinking about finding a groom for me.
According to you, who is the best actress ever in Malayalam?
You can never name just one actress as the best in Malayalam. In every era, there was a different actress who stood apart from the rest with her performance. This is possible in Malayalam because we have excellent roles for heroines here. Actresses will be able to demonstrate their capabilities only if they are given powerful roles to play.
Actresses like Asin, Nayantara and even Renuka Menon have got offers from Bollywood. Aren’t you interested?
Years ago, Ramgopal Varma had invited me to act in his films. The projects were dropped later. Then, Salman Khan invited me to act in two of his films. for some reasons, those films were canceled too. I recently was offered a film which stars Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar in the lead. But I refused. if you want to work in Bollywood films, you will have to become glamorous. I’m not interested.
Have you ever said something which you regretted later?
It had happened many times in the past. Some of the things that I had said before had created lot of controversies. These days I’m very careful. I don’t go about revealing bitter truths anymore.
Why? Don’t you believe that truths are meant to be told?
You are saying that simply because you want to drag me into another controversy. But I’m not going to fall for that trap now. I want to stay in this profession for some more time, so I better not reveal those bitter truths.
